Awards management | Case study
Background
Chambers Ireland and Submit
Chambers Ireland is Ireland’s largest business organisation with a network of Chambers of Commerce in every major town and region in the country.
Their goal is to facilitate the growth and development of the Irish chamber network and enable the 43 chambers in the network to effectively promote long term enterprise development of their area on behalf of their members.
Carly Mooney, Event Manager and Administrator with Chambers Ireland, use Submit.com to manage the awards processes for three awards; the Chamber Awards, the Corporate Social Responsibility Awards, and the Excellence in Local Government Awards.
“I heard about Submit through Cork Chamber, I spoke to Neil [Submit’s Senior Solutions Specialist] who did a demo for us, and we were so happy I didn’t feel the need to look anywhere else,” said Carly.
Limitless judging
For Carly and Chambers Ireland, the experience of their judges was the highest priority and their previous internal system wasn’t working.
As Carly notes, “for example, the minimum number of judges we’d have would be five, so we would print off the applications five times and put them into a big huge folder to send them.
Obviously, that was torturous for them because it meant they couldn’t work from anywhere. Whereas now they can do it on the train, the bus, or wherever it’s just much easier for them to do it online.”
This level of workload on the judges was detrimental to their engagement, especially as they are volunteers, who complete the evaluation in their spare time.
“We were actually starting to struggle to get judges to participate. The workload was scaring them off! And then each year we would get more and more applications,” said Carly.
Generational concerns
Carly admitted she had some concerns about whether the less tech-savvy judges would handle using an online awards management system.
“Because some of our judges might be retired executive who might not have much experience with technology but they’ve been absolutely fine with it.
There were maybe one or two judges I had to talk through it once with but on the whole, there were no problems.”
Outstanding onboarding
At Submit, we pride ourselves on providing a comprehensive onboarding experience. We want to empower our clients to get the very best out of the platform. No matter the use case.
“Neil was very good at making sure we were happy with it before proceeding. He came up to Dublin to do the demo twice, once to go through everything with me and the other with my colleagues. It was very good, very informative for everyone,” said Carly.
